(SELF)PORTRAIT PROJECT WITH MAASLAND COLLEGE

Our 9th grade art course is participating in an international collaboration with the students of Maasland college in the Netherlands.

The aim of our project is to study (self-)portrait in social media, art history and contemporary portrait photography.

We started with an introductory lesson on the place of photography in our everyday lives and a closer look at the “art” of current selfie-culture in social media.

Then we study the art of (self)portrait in art history and the history of photographic art. After the historical tour we will bring students back to the present.

Assignment 1: Photography by description

Students chose a  portrait photo from a list of contemporary photographers in their own countries and write a 200-250 word description of it in English.
